FOREST
FOREST is a live audiovisual performance created during Márk Bartha’s Visual & Sound Residency at A4 in Bratislava, Slovakia, supported by the Visegrad Fund. The piece debuted in A4’s concert hall on 24 March 2023.

The project was originally conceived as an installative audiovisual environment, but during the residency it gradually evolved into a live performance. Working with a quadraphonic sound system and a 30-piece LED installation, Bartha created a dense landscape of sound and light in which musical gestures, spatial movement and visual changes became closely connected.




The installation was built from LEDs hanging from the ceiling of the black-box concert hall. Their density evoked the image of a forest, while their strict, artificial arrangement created a sense of tension between the organic and the constructed. This ambivalence also shaped the sound world of the piece: synthetic bird-like sounds, drone-like textures, environmental noises and storm-like musical events formed a fictional landscape that remained somewhere between nature and machine.


FOREST unfolds as a narrative journey through an imagined forest. There is no verbalised plot, but the performance carries a strong sense of atmosphere, conflict, entropy and melancholy. Through sound, light and spatial movement, the work reflects on the uncertain future of the relationship between humans and nature, translating this anxiety into an abstract sensory environment.
